Young Workers Summit: Last Chance to Register

Join hundreds of young workers and activists in Washington, D.C., June 10–13 for the first AFL-CIO Young Workers Summit. Or share the news with a young worker activist today. Learn more and register online today. It's Free!

Dear walter,

Our movement is constantly evolving and our young members and activists are the next generation of leaders. To hear from young workers about their top priorities, concerns and ideas for taking back our economy and building a stronger labor movement, I have been hosting listening forums across the country.

Our conversation is taking the next big step in less than three weeks (June 10–13), when hundreds of young activists and union workers are coming to Washington, D.C., for the first national “Next Up” Young Workers Summit hosted by the AFL-CIO. At the summit, young labor leaders and activists will have an opportunity to share ideas and experiences and make concrete plans for bringing change to their communities, unions and our country.

NOTE: The last day to get our great hotel rate is this Friday, May 21. Be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible. You can do that on the “Next Up” Young Workers Summit website.

Join us. Register now for the free AFL-CIO Young Workers Summit.

Can't make it? I bet you know someone who is ready to take the lead. Forward this e-mail to young workers set to be “Next Up.”

Join us in D.C. on June 10–13. Register today!

Tell everyone you know by forwarding this e-mail far and wide.

Can’t come to D.C., but want to stay engaged? Join our conversation on Facebook.

In solidarity,

Liz Shuler
AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka tells the Good Jobs, Green Jobs conference: Good jobs OR green jobs is a false choice
.

You can make your voice heard and your vote count in an online global debate on trade, sponsored by the British publication The Economist. Arizona’s anti-immigrant law, says AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, is an affront to American values of fairness and “severely undermines workers’ rights

Tim Miller helped carry out the bodies of 10 co-workers after an explosion at a nonunion mine. He knows the difference a union makes.

Kansas City bank rally
Workers and community activists like these in Kansas City are telling the Big Banks it’s time to pay for the jobs they destroyed

Far too many workers are killed on the job because the nation’s safety and health laws are too weak to protect workers and penalties are too lenient to deter employers, finds the AFL-CIO report, “Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect.” Released in conjunction with Workers Memorial Day, the report analyzes the 5,214 worker deaths and as many as 14 million injuries in 2008.
